Police Arrest Transient for Failing To Register As A Sex Offender

HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – July 19th, 2018– The Hollister Police Department arrested Anthony Lewis for failing to register as a sex offender.

Around 3:46 A.M., in the morning of July, 17 2018, Officer Rudolfs was dispatched to a call of a man causing a disturbance and refusing to leave the Quikstop store located at 10 San Felipe Road.

Officer Rudolfs arrived to the location and contacted a man who identified himself as being Anthony Lewis (48).

Anthony Lewis was recently a transient in Monterey County before being arrested for a warrant out of San Benito County. He was arrested and brought to the San Benito County Jail. Lewis was released earlier this month from the San Benito County Jail. He is also a convicted sex offender and is required to register within 5 days of his release from the jail. He failed to register within the required time.

Lewis was taken into custody and charged with failing to register within 5 days of being released from jail.

Convicted sex offenders that are required to register, must register their home address every year within 5 days of their birthdates. Those listed as transients, must register every 30 days and within 5 days of moving into any new city or county.

This arrest is the second incident within two weeks of a transient being arrested for sexual crime offenses. On July 4th, Shaun Allen Heflin (29) was arrested for a warrant where he was wanted for rape and other charges (Press Release #18-023).

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is requested to contact Officer Rudolfs at 831-636-4330. Persons wishing to remain anonymous may call WeTip at (800) 78-CRIME. Information provided to WeTip may qualify for a reward.
