10K Reward Offered in the 2005 Unsolved Hacienda Heights Murder of 27 y/o Edward Berber. Person of Interest Sought

On Tuesday, December 6, 2005, Edward Berber was found shot to death inside his home, still lying in bed, by his mother who had not heard from him for several days.

For years, this case has remained unsolved, with all leads exhausted by the original homicide investigators whom are now retired.  However, homicide cases stay open until a suspect is arrested.  And with a new set of homicide investigators looking at the facts of the case, the application of advanced technology, follow up interviews and ongoing re-evaluation of evidence, homicide detectives believe this is a very solvable case and reached out the public this morning for any information leading to the arrest of the “person of interest” shown in the composite sketch.

The composite was developed based on re-interviewing witnesses from in 2005 and early 2006, as well as witnesses that were interviewed just recently. This composite is based on those interviews and is a picture of what the “person of interest” would have looked like 13 years ago.

Homicide detectives believe the victim, Edward Berber, was sleeping in his bed when he was shot and killed. There was no sign of forced entry into his residence and nothing is believed to have been taken from the home.  At the time, Victim Berber and his wife Tanya were estranged and in the process of divorcing at the time. Homicide detectives have made contact with Tanya, who has since remarried.

During today’s news conference, the victim’s mother, plead, Rosa Berber, “I just ask that you please help us.  Help us find out what happened with my son…”“We believe we are very, very close to a breakthrough in this case,” Sheriff McDonnell stated.  “Please look at this face. Someone out there knows him.”

Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn offered a $10,000 reward in exchange for information leading to the apprehension or conviction of those responsible for the 2005 murder of Edward Berber in his Hacienda Heights home.
