Police Encourage Residents to Participate in National Night Out

Neighborhoods throughout Palo Alto are invited to participate in National Night Out, a campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood safety.

The Palo Alto Police Department is reintroducing National Night Out after a decade-long absence, with the goal of making it once again an annual tradition.

National Night Out will occur on August 7, 2018 when residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on their front porch lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement. Some may host a block party, a cookout at a park, or some other community gathering. We are making our officers and emergency personnel available to those holding a National Night Out event as we value the importance of building relationships with residents. We will also have an area set up outside our police department located on Forest Avenue with officers outside to greet the community and socialize.

NNO helps spread awareness about crime prevention programs and the impact that citizens of Palo Alto can have on reducing crime, drugs, and violence in the city. Local neighborhoods and homeowners’ associations play a critical role in assisting the police department in these efforts and can help make our neighborhoods safer.

If you are interested in hosting an event and would like police to attend, please fill out the attached form by July 30 and send it to [email protected]. For more information on National Night Out, please visit www.natw.org.
