Mary Stewart, a 28 year old Wisconsin resident

Incident Summary

Petaluma PD officers were dispatched to a report of a hit and run collision on North Water Street.  Witnesses provided a vehicle description, and officers located the vehicle in the 800 block of Petaluma Boulevard North.  The driver was contacted and identified as Rudolf Giancola, who displayed obvious signs of intoxication.  His passenger, Mary Stewart, was also contacted and displayed obvious signs of intoxication.

After speaking with Giancola and Stewart, officers determined Stewart was the driver during the original hit and run collision on Water Street.  She drove to Petaluma Boulevard North, where they switched seats and Giancola then drove due to Stewart’s state.  Giancola was found to be on DUI probation, as well.  Both were arrested for DUI.  Subsequent chemical tests revealed their blood alcohol contents to be over twice the legal California limit of .08%.  Both were booked into the Sonoma County Jail.

DUI continues to plague California roadways and Petaluma PD strongly encourages the use of public transportation, taxis, friends, family, or ride sharing companies, such as Uber or Lyft, if drinking is in the plans.  DUI is very expensive and DMV will suspend driving privileges for up to one year.  Bottom line: do not drink and drive.
