Suspect driver identified & arrested in June 30th major injury, hit and run collision

DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 11, 2018

INCIDENT: **UPDATE** Hit-and-Run Traffic Collision / Major Injury

LOCATION: Sterling Avenue / Baseline Street, City of Highland

SUSPECT: Aaron Steward, age 27, resident of Highland

VICTIM: 28 year old male, resident of San Bernardino.


SUMMARY: **UPDATE** - Investigators were able to identify a vehicle involved in this Hit and Run incident that occurred on June 30, 2018. On July 11, 2018, deputies working in the City of Grand Terrace located the suspect's vehicle and the suspect. Through investigation, Steward was identified as the driver who struck the victim on June 30, 2018 and left the scene. He was arrested without incident and booked into the Central Detention Center for Felony - Hit and Run, causing major injuries. His bail is set at $50,000.

The victim remains hospitalized with very serious injuries.

On Saturday, June 30, 2018, around 11:30 p.m., deputies assigned to the Highland Police Department responded to a traffic collision near the intersection of Sterling Avenue and Baseline Street. Deputies learned a pedestrian was crossing Sterling Avenue and was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle made no attempt to render aid to the pedestrian and fled the scene. The pedestrian, whose name is withheld pending next of kin notification, was transported to a local hospital with major injuries and is in critical condition.

Investigators from the Sheriff's Department Region I Major Accident Investigation Team were called to the scene to investigate. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
