IMPD Homicide detectives make arrest in shooting death of 13-year-old

COMMUNITY MESSAGE:
INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives arrest Shantell Taylor (33) for her alleged involvement in the shooting death of Harry Taliefer (13) on 07/12/2018.
 
On 07/12/2018, just before 11:00 p.m., officers with the IMPD were dispatched to the 2200 block of Barnor Drive on a large Disturbance.  While on the way officers were informed by dispatch that there was a possible person shot.  When officers arrived they located Harry suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  The victim was transported to Riley Children’s Hospital by Indianapolis EMS in critical condition. Despite the best life-saving efforts by medical staff, the juvenile male died from his injuries. 
 
IMPD Homicide Detectives responded and began canvassing the area for evidence and speaking with potential witnesses. During the course of the investigation they were able to identify Taylor as allegedly being involved in the shooting death of Harry. Taylor turned herself in to police on 07/14/2018. She was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to the City-County Building lock-up facility for processing. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a charging decision.
 
Detectives would like to thank the IMPD Violent Crimes Unit, Gang Unit, and Marion County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit, for their tireless efforts which was critical in encouraging Taylor to turn herself in and without incident.
