IMPD Homicide detectives make 2nd arrest in January shooting that left two men dead

INCIDENT TYPE: Double Homicide Arrest

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives were able to identify Jerrick Whitley (32) as allegedly being involved in the shooting death of Deron Gray (24) and James Ratcliffe (50), and shooting of Anthony Christopher (49) which occurred in the 1300 block of N Sherman Dr on 01/28/2018.
 
On 07/14/2018, detectives with IMPD Violent Crimes Unit (VCU), Gangs, North District Flex (NDF) team, and Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), received information that Whitley was at a house in the 4100 block of Broadway St. Detectives and assisting uniformed officers responded to the location to make contact with persons at the residence.  Upon making contact with person(s) at the door, officers learned that several individuals were present at the location, including Jerrick Whitley.  All occupants exited the house and Whitley was taken into custody without further incident.

 Whitley was arrested on active warrants for murder, robbery, and dealing narcotics. He was transported to the IMPD Homicide Office and then taken to the City-County Building lock-up for processing. The IMPD would like to thank all units involved and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this apprehension. The IMPD would also like to thank the community for their ongoing support and efforts in helping to make Indianapolis a safer place to live, work, and play.

Run Type: Person shot X 5/Homicide Investigation

Incident address: 1300 block of North Sherman Drive (NE50)

INDIANAPOLIS--On January 28, 2018, at approximately 2:14 a.m.,  Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers were patrolling when they heard multiple shots fired in the area of 1600 N. Sherman Drive.  Moments later officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of North Sherman Drive on a person shot.  Officers arrived and located multiple people shot outside the Sawmill Saloon.  Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) responded to the scene.  There were multiple victims at the scene. IEMS pronounced one male deceased at the scene.  Three people were transported to Eskenazi hospital, where one person was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival, one remained in critical condition, and one in stable condition.  A fifth person was transported to Community East hospital by a friend and then moved to Methodist hospital where he remains in critical condition. 
 
Homicide detectives responded to the incident scene and began canvassing the area for witnesses.  At this point in the investigation, detectives know a disturbance occurred at the Sawmill Saloon prior to the shots being fired.  The Marion County Forensic Services Agency also responded to the scene to assist with identifying and collecting forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) will determine the exact manner and cause of death. The name of the victims can be obtained from the MCCO after proper identification and next-of-kin notification.
