INCIDENT: Attempted Kidnapping

LOCATION: Avalon Drive and Inyo Street, Victorville

SUSPECT: Ronald Selby, 36-year old Victorville transient

VICTIM(S): Confidential –11-year-old male
14-year-old male


SUMMARY: On July 12, 2018, Sheriff’s Service Specialists Bracamontes and Lozada, from the Victorville Police Department, were flagged down near Avalon Drive and Inyo Street by two boys, ages 11 and 14.

The boys had been riding their bikes near Avalon Park when a man in a blue van approached them. The man got out of the van and grabbed the 11-year old boy by the shoulder. The boy was able to pull away and run. The man returned to his van and fled the area. Bracamontes, Lozada, and several deputies conducted a check of the area but were unable to locate the man.

On July 13, 2018, Bracamontes was patrolling the area of the incident when he spotted a blue, 1992 Chevy van, matching the description of that from the attempted kidnapping. Deputies arrived at the location and made contact with Ronald Selby. Selby was positively identified as the suspect and taken into custody. He was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for attempted kidnapping.

A photograph of Selby and the van he was driving are being released, as it is believed there may be other victims that have not yet come forward.
