Traffic Violations Result in Man Arrested with Stolen Pistol
On Tuesday evening, an officer patrolling the parking lot near the In-N-Out restaurant on Hesperian Blvd. stopped a vehicle that resulted in the arrest of a man, who was in possession of a loaded firearm that had been reported stolen.
At 7:00pm, an officer saw 31 year old, Oakland resident, Quentin Guyton driving a 2017 GMC Yukon SUV through the parking lot near the In-N-Out restaurant and Walmart store located in the 15500 block of Hesperian Blvd. After observing various violations, the officer stopped the vehicle in the parking lot. While speaking with Guyton, the officer smelled the odor of burning marijuana coming from inside of the full-sized SUV.
Officers searched the inside of the SUV and found a loaded 9mm semi-auto Sig Sauer pistol with 15-rounds of ammunition in it near the driver’s seat. Officers also found a box of 9mm ammunition, containing more than 30 rounds in inside, a Glock semi-auto pistol magazine, and marijuana concealed inside of a hidden storage compartment.
Computer checks revealed that Guyton was a convicted felon and that the Sig Sauer pistol had been reported stolen to police in another state. The magazine for the Glock pistol is not compatible with the stolen Sig Sauer. Following their search of the vehicle, no other firearms were located.
“This arrest is an example of how a minor traffic infraction can end in the arrest of a dangerous individual armed with a loaded pistol,” stated Lt. Robert McManus. “The officer in this case is responsible for taking a stolen gun off of the street that may have been used in a violent crime, somewhere in one of our Bay Area communities.”
The Alameda County District Attorney has formally charged Guyton with several firearm-related offenses, including being a felon in possession of a firearm. He remains in police custody at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin in lieu of $45,000 bail, and is scheduled to appear in court on July 17th.
