Gang member arrested with sawed off rifle by Major Crimes Task Force

  • 29800 (a)(1) PC- Felon possession of a firearm
  • 33210 PC- Possession of short barrel rifle
  • 30305 (a)(1) PC- Felon possession of ammunition
  • 3455 (b)(1) PC- Probation violation
  • 602(m) PC- Trespassing without owners consent


Suspect:
  • Salas, Samuel, a 32 year old Pomona resident
  • Perez, Julio, a 33 year old Pomona resident

Narrative:

On Thursday, July 12, 2018, around 4:00 PM, members of the Pomona Police Department's Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) and the Crime Impact Task Force (CITF) were partnered up, and working a gang suppression detail within the City of Pomona. Officers located two known Pomona gang members trespassing in a vacant residence.

Suspect Salas who is on active parole was contacted and detained as he was leaving the property. Suspect Perez fled through an open window of the residence and began running through neighboring yards. With the assistance of the Pomona Police Air unit, Perez was apprehended by Officers. Officers later located a sawed off rifle that was discarded by Suspect Perez.

Suspect Salas was arrested on a parole violation and Suspect Perez was arrested on the above listed gun charges.

The Pomona Police department has an active list of locations that property owners have signed a “no trespassing authorization form." This active list assists property owners with the constant nuisance of trespassing, allows the Pomona Police department to make an arrest without the property owner being present. This type of enforcement also assists the community with the nuisance of people loitering in vacant homes and business.

The City of Pomona is dedicated to addressing quality of life issues and often uses partnered Law Enforcement agencies to accomplish one common goal of ensuring the safety of our community.
