Police Arrest Three Men on Gun and Drug Charges

HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – July 12, 2018 – Police arrested three men after finding a loaded handgun and drugs in their possession.
 
On July 10, 2018 at about 12:25 am, Officer Evan Umstead was on patrol when he was dispatched to a call of subjects in a car driving up and down a city street causing a disturbance.  Officer Umstead responded to the area of Ladd Lane and Tres Pinos Road and located a car matching the description.  The car was occupied by three men. 
 
Officer Umstead contacted Brandon Olivera (18,HMA from Hollister), David Werolin (22, WMA from Hollister) and Kelon Jacobs (22 BMA from Gilroy).  During Officer Umstead’s investigation, he discovered evidence indicative of possible drug possession.  Officer Umstead requested assistance from Officer Melgoza and his K9 partner, Freeze.
 
During a search, Freeze alerted to several areas of the vehicle indicating there were controlled substances in the vehicle. Officers located Psilocybin (mushrooms) and methamphetamines in the car.  As Officer Umstead continued his investigation, he found a loaded handgun and one hundred rounds of ammunition.
 
Werolin was booked on the charges of, a driver allowing a passenger to carry a loaded firearm in a vehicle and possession of a controlled substance.  Jacobs was charged with possession of a controlled substance, and Olivera was charged with carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a firearm/not being the owner of the firearm and possession of a controlled substance.        
 
 
The Hollister Police Department would like to thank the community member for being vigilant and proactive in reporting the suspicious vehicle.  Residents calling in and advising of dangerous situations is imperative to create a safer community.
