INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision

LOCATION: Seventh Street / East Sage Street

VICTIM: Steven Russell Archuleta, 64-year old Victorville Transient (Deceased)

UPDATE/CORRECTION: The victim of the fatal hit and run collision on July 6, 2018, has been identified as 64-year old Steven Russell Archuleta.

Investigators have determined the vehicle that struck Archuleta was a silver 2005 Ford Taurus, with silver over black side view mirrors, similar to that in the photograph. The vehicle will likely have front end damage and is missing the passenger side mirror. SUMMARY: On Friday, July 6, 2018, at approximately 9:00pm, deputies from the Victorville Station and rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department and American Medical Response, responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision near the intersection of Seventh Street and East Sage Street in the City of Victorville. Upon arrival, deputies determined that an unknown vehicle was driving northbound on Seventh Street and a pedestrian was walking westbound across Seventh Street. The vehicle struck the pedestrian causing the pedestrian to flip up and over the vehicle and land in the middle of the roadway.

The driver of the vehicle continued driving northbound and fled the scene of the collision. The pedestrian was transported to Victor Valley Global Medical Center and was to be flown by air ambulance to an out of the area trauma center. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the hospital shortly after arrival.

Victorville City M.A.I.T. Investigators are continuing the investigation into the cause of the collision. Seventh Street, north of Green Tree Boulevard and south of East Sage Street, was closed in both directions for several hours. The roadway remained closed while investigators processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.
