Reminder! Lock your cars, take your keys, remove valuables. Rash of thefts from cars during overnight hours-all from unlocked cars. 
During approximately the last week, the JHPD has taken 11 separate theft reports from vehicles, parked at residences, in various neighborhoods, on the west side of the borough - all occurring during the late overnight hours. There was no forced entry into any vehicle, as all vehicles were left unlocked. A variety of "non-traceable" items were stolen from the vehicles to include cash, coins, and clothing. During that same period of time, the JHPD has increased residential patrols in these affected areas. While doing so, officers have observed 23 garage doors to residences remaining wide open during these late, overnight hours. Officers have been directed to wake the residents up and have them close their garage doors to prevent their homes from being entered and burglarized, assaulted...
Residents are reminded that leaving vehicles unlocked, as well as residences wide open at night are invitations to actors to commit these "crimes of opportunities". Do your part to prevent crime by always closing and locking doors to homes and vehicles.
