*2nd UPDATE* #LASD Det's Asst Cal State University Police w/ Stabbing Death & OIS Investigation

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives are continuing to assist California State University Police with the stabbing death and Officer-Involved Shooting, which occurred on Friday, June 29, 2018, on the campus of California State Polytechnic University, 3801 West Temple Avenue, Pomona.
 
An autopsy was performed today, Monday, July 09, 2018, on the suspect in the murder of Cal Poly Pomona Public Safety Specialist Mark Manlapaz.
 
The suspect has been identified as Rodney Lee Hunter Jr., a 27 year-old male Black.  He was employed at Cal poly Pomona as a Custodian. 
 
Detectives have yet to determine what the motive was for the attack and murder of the victim. 
 
The investigation is ongoing.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing death of a man and an officer-involved shooting. The incident occurred on Friday, June 29, 2018, on the campus of California State Polytechnic University, 3801 West Temple Avenue, Pomona. 

A uniformed Public Security Specialist was found stabbed in his truck on the south campus of the university by a fellow employee at approximately 4:30 p.m. The 37 year-old male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

On another area of the campus, near Lyle center, a short time later, witnesses called law enforcement to report they may have located the suspect. Officers from Pomona Police Department and California State University Police of Cal Poly Pomona arrived and an officer-involved shooting occurred at approximately 4:55 p.m.

The suspect, a male Black adult, was pronounced dead on scene.

The murder weapon (knife) was recovered at the scene of the officer-involved shooting. 

The investigation is still ongoing.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives are responding to the 3500 block of West Pomona Boulevard, Pomona, to assist Cal Poly Pomona University Police Department personnel investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing death of a male adult victim and an officer-involved shooting. 

The stabbing victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time.
