The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

July 5th

0907 Hours: Officer Wilkerson responded to the Ohlone Wildlife Center, 37175 Hickory Street for a burglary report. The location was the target of an attempted burglary the previous day. Officer Wilkerson was able to review security video and obtained a description of an associated suspect vehicle.
At approximately 1109 hours, Officer Riddles located the suspect vehicle parked on Dumbarton Court. Officer Riddles and Officer R. Johnson contacted the driver, a 36-year-old Hayward male and learned the van was an unreported stolen vehicle out of Union City. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of the property stolen from the Wildlife Center, as well as controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. Officer Wilkerson arrested the suspect for burglary, vehicle theft, possessing stolen property, possessing a controlled substance, possessing drug paraphernalia and for violating the terms of his probation. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1012 Hours: Officer Herbert contacted and arrested a 26-year-old transient male for violation the terms of his probation (stay away order) on the 5400 block of Thornton Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1122 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 45-year-old transient male for possessing a controlled substance during a routine pedestrian stop on the 34800 block of Newark Boulevard. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1308 Hours: Officer Khairy responded to the area of Olive Street near Baine Avenue for a report of a suspicious subject climbing fences into neighbor’s yards. Officer Khairy contacted and arrested a 27-year-old Newark male for being under the influence of a controlled substance. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

2246 Hours: Officer Palacio responded to the area of Cedar Boulevard and McDonald Avenue for a report of a male subject wearing no shirt and yelling at passing vehicles. Officer Palacio contacted and arrested a 48-year-old transient male for being under the influence of a controlled substance and probation violation. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

July 6th

0723 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 63-year-old transient male for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia during a routine pedestrian stop on Ardenwood Boulevard at Hwy. 84. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1049 Hours: Officer D. Johnson contacted and arrested a 25-year-old Newark male for his outstanding warrant during a pedestrian stop on the 36400 block of Hafner Street. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1515 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 37-year-old transient male for his outstanding warrants during a pedestrian stop on the 4800 block of Thornton Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

July 7th

0649 Hours: Officer Herbert contacted and arrested a 25-year-old Fremont male for possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a license during a routine traffic stop on the 39100 block of Cedar Boulevard. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

0652 Hours: Officer D. Johnson investigated three auto burglaries that occurred overnight on the 36100 block of Forestwood Drive. The loss is an iPod Nano.

0702 Hours: Officer Nobbe investigated an auto burglary on the 6300 block of Potrero Drive. There was no notable loss.

1913 hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 33-year-old San Jose male for his outstanding warrant during a routine traffic stop on Newark Boulevard at Cedar Boulevard. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

0334 hours: Officers were dispatched to a possible DUI driver in the area of Thornton Avenue and Ash Street. Officer Hunter located a vehicle with significant damage to the front end of the car, and one tire entirely shredded and there were several empty beer bottles in the car. Officer Pacheco determined the driver, a 36-year-old Fremont female was under the influence of alcohol. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

July 8th

0735 Hours: Officers responded to a disturbance on the 6200 block of Mayhews Landing Road. A 46-year-old Newark male was contacted and arrested for violation of a court order and for being under the influence of a controlled substance. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

0849 Hours: Officer Mapes investigated the theft of a Hyundai on the 35400 block of Cleremont Drive. The vehicle was recovered a short time later by the San Jose Division of the CHP.

1319 Hours: Officer Rivera contacted and arrested a 47-year-old Hayward male for possession of a controlled substance during a routine pedestrian stop on the 5800 block of Jarvis Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

2020 Hours: Officer Rivas contacted and arrested a 38-year-old Fremont male for possession of a controlled substance and driving without a license during a routine traffic stop on Birch Street at Thornton Avenue. The suspect was issued a citation and released. The vehicle was driven away by a licensed driver.

0512 Hours: Officer Pacheco investigated an interrupted auto burglary on the 36700 block of Cypress Point Drive. The loss is miscellaneous tools and two laptop computers.
