Man presses on gas instead of brakes, causing vehicle to crash into a pedestrian & through front doors of business

SUMMARY:
On Monday, July 9, 2018, at 9:30 am, deputies from the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to the report of a traffic collision with injuries. According to the 911 call, a vehicle crashed into the front doors of the Chevron Gas Station.
The driver of the vehicle, Harvey Fenstermaker, is a double amputee. He was using his left leg, where he is missing his foot, to power the vehicle. Through the investigation it was determined Fenstermaker accidentally pressed on the gas instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to crash into a pedestrian who was sitting in front of the store and continuing through the front doors of the business.
The pedestrian, Jeffrey Irvin, was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries. Fenstermaker, who was driving without a license and insurance, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
No citations were issued at the scene. The cost of the damage to the business was not known at the time of this release. The investigation is continuing.
