Highland man arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon after striking his girlfriend with a vehicle and fleeing

DATE/TIME: July 4, 2018 6:08 p.m.

INCIDENT: Assault with a Deadly Weapon

LOCATION: 26030 Baseline Street, Highland

SUSPECT: Lawrence Michael Harris, 34-years-old, resident of Highland

VICTIM: 28 year old female, resident of Highland

SUMMARY:
On Wednesday, July 4th, 2018, at about 6:08 p.m., the sheriff’s department received a 911 call reporting a female hit by a vehicle at 26030 Baseline Street in the city of Highland. The vehicle, a grey Nissan Armada, fled the location. Additional callers reported the vehicle was driven by the victim’s boyfriend and the collision was intentional.

The victim was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center with serious injuries. Deputies responded to the scene and the hospital. The investigation revealed the victim and her boyfriend, Lawrence Harris, were arguing in the apartment complex. The victim began to walk away when Harris quickly reversed his vehicle into the victim, launching her across the asphalt parking lot. The victim was unable to move. Harris removed the couple’s children from the vehicle and fled the scene.

At about 9:54 p.m. Harris returned to the apartment complex. Deputies attempted to contact him but he locked himself inside the apartment and refused to come outside. A warrant was authored for the residence and Harris’ arrest. Deputies attempted to negotiate with Harris for several hours but were unable to gain his compliance. The warrant was served and Harris was taken into custody shortly before 1:00 a.m.

Harris was booked into the Central Detention Center for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and is being held in leiu of $300,000.00 bail.
