Two month old twins are hospitalized after Pediatrician discovers injuries consistent with child abuse

SUSPECT: Anthony Gutierrez, 20 years old, resident of Pinon Hills
SUMMARY:
On Friday, June 29, 2018, Victim #1 was transported via ambulance from St. Mary’s Hospital in Apple Valley to Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC) for a femur fracture. During a medical examination at LLUMC, forensic pediatricians found additional fractures on Victim #1. The San Bernardino County Children and Family Services (CFS) aided in the investigation and obtained custody of Victim #1 and Victim #2. Subsequently, Victim #2 was examined by forensic pediatricians and found to have fractures. Both victims (twins) were hospitalized at LLUMC and the injuries were consistent with suspected child abuse.
Investigators determined the victims reside in Pinon Hills with Anthony Gutierrez.
Following an extensive investigation and collaboration with Forensic Pediatricians from LLUMC and CFS, Anthony Gutierrez was arrested on July 4, 2018. He was booked at Central Detention Center for Willful Cruelty to a Child and bail was set at $100,000.
