SLPD Prepares for July 4th Holiday Celebrations

The San Leandro Police Department is preparing for the July 4th holiday celebration and will be increasing its patrols in all City parks, as well as throughout the city, ensuring that residents and visitors have a safe and enjoyable holiday while celebrating our Nation's Independence.

The San Leandro Police Department would like to remind our residents and visitors of the  following:

• ALL fireworks, including those determined to be "safe and sane" are illegal to possess and/or use within the City of San Leandro.  Violators are subject to the confiscation of their fireworks, citation and/or arrest.

• The Marina Park will be open to everyone, but will close at 6pm on July 4th.  Access to the Monarch Bay Golf Club, El Torito and Horatio's restaurants, and Marina Inn hotel will be made accessible to their customers.

• All dogs in parks and public places are required to be on a leash at all times (leash can be no longer than 6 feet in length).  Violators are subject to citation.

• Open alcoholic beverages are prohibited in public places and City parks.  Violators are subject to citation or arrest.

• For those without advanced reservations for picnic areas at San Leandro parks, single picnic tables will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Police encourage residents and visitors to report illegal fireworks and other suspicious or criminal activity as soon as possible by doing one of the following:

1. Phone the Communications Center at (510) 577-2740.  Please be patient, as call volumes greatly increase during the evening hours.  Call 9-1-1 for emergencies.

2. Text anonymous tips by texting the letters "TipSLPolice" and tip information to 888777.

3. Send a Twitter message to @SanLeandroPD.

4. Submit an anonymous tip at http://www.sanleandro.org/depts/pd/at.asp\

San Leandro Police will partner with other local law enforcement agencies and the Alameda County Fire Department and work together on the enforcement of illegal fireworks violations, making San Leandro safe for everyone.

Citizens play a critical role in creating a safe environment by observing and reporting any suspicious and criminal activity to the Police.  The San Leandro Police Department recommends that citizens do not participate in any direct verbal or physical involvement with suspicious persons or those who are committing crimes. The personal safety of the community is paramount. We encourage the San Leandro community to record the details of what they observe and to report those details to the Police.  This type of community involvement and partnership has proven to be a very effective crime prevention tool. Citizens act as the eyes and ears of the community first, and the extended eyes and ears of the San Leandro Police Department. Thank you for being a force multiplier in our efforts to provide professional police services and safety to the community.
