National Night Out is Tuesday, August 7th. Please join us at one of our parties or organize an event in your neighborhood.

National Night Out (NNO) is Tuesday, August 7th and we are looking forward to another evening of fun and conversation with members of our communities. Please join us as we host two block parties or consider organizing an activity in your neighborhood.

NNO is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. NNO was created by the National Association of Town Watch to make an organized statement against crime throughout the country and is always held on the first Tuesday in August. Neighbors are encouraged to get out of their houses and meet other neighbors in the area and get to know them. The theory being that when neighbors meet and know each other, they are more apt to report suspicious activity in their neighborhood rather than “look the other way” when they see something noteworthy. When you know your neighbors and watch out for them, overall crime in the area is reduced. Neighborhood events can be casual and informal such as a potluck or ice cream social, or more elaborate activities like a street party.

If your neighborhood is not able to hold an event, then please come on over and join us! CMPA will host block parties at two locations: in Corte Madera at Menke Park, Redwood and Corte Madera Avenues; or at our San Anselmo station, 525 San Anselmo Avenue. Our parties will run from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and provide an opportunity to meet and chat with not only CMPA officers, but also our public safety partners from CHP, Marin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Central Marin and Ross Valley Fire Departments. There will games for kids, the opportunity to see police and fire vehicles up close, and free hot dogs for everyone. If you are going to hold an event in your neighborhood, please fill out the registration form, including a detailed description of your activities. The NNO registration form is available on our website www.centralmarinpolice.org . If your event includes a street closure, you must contact your City or Town Public Works Department for a permit. Please send your completed registration to Margo Rohrbacher, NNO coordinator, no later than Friday, July 27, 2018. For questions, email [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you!
