Pair arrested in San Leandro liquor store shooting

The two suspects that San Leandro Police detectives were looking for in connection with a liquor store shooting have been located and arrested.

29 yr-old Caesar Browning and 28 yr-old Victoria Atkinson of Oakland were arrested near their home after detectives made their identity in the case.

The suspects were involved in a June 15th incident at the 3-Ring Liquor bottle shop located at 15257 Hesperian Blvd. in San Leandro. Detectives are investigating this case as an attempted homicide after reviewing video surveillance of the male suspect, Ceasar Browning firing a shotgun at the store clerk.

The incident occurred around 7:40 pm when Browning entered the store and purchased a bottle of alcohol. After the transaction, Browning exited the store. However, he quickly returned and got into a dispute with the store clerk over the sale. Browning again exited the store, but this time he returned shirtless and brandishing a firearm.

The adult female, Atkinson, who is Browning's girlfriend also entered the store and attempted to pull Browning away. However, Browning was pointing and waving the firearm at the two store clerks as they tried to hide. Browning then fired the gun at one clerk, narrowly missing him, but striking the wall behind him..

Atkinson then grabbed Browning and pulled him out of the store. Both suspects then fled the scene.

Detectives presented the case today to the Alameda County District Attorney. After review, Browning was charged with attempt homicide and two weapon enhancement charges. Atkinson was released from custody with no charges filed.

"This was a violent and unprovoked incident committed by the suspect," said Lieutenant Isaac Benabou. "Once again our detectives were able to identify the suspect through the assistance of surveillance video footage. Without this valuable piece of evidence, this case may have gone unsolved."

Browning remains in custody at Alameda County's Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
