Leave Fireworks to the Professionals this Year
Police Remind Residents to Leave Fireworks to Professionals
6/28/2018
North Aurora, IL – The North Aurora Police Department would like to remind residents that fireworks are illegal in the Village of North Aurora and the State of Illinois. The North Aurora Police Department asks residents to leave fireworks to the professionals and enjoy one of the local municipal displays.
North Aurora code 9.12.070 prohibits the use of fireworks, as defined by the Fireworks Use Act (425 ILCS 35/1), within the municipal limits of North Aurora. It is a violation of ordinance for “any person or any property owner to aid, abet, assist, consult, advise, encourage, permit or allow any person to possess or offer for sale, . . . use or explode fireworks. A property owner, or any lawful occupant of the property shall be presumed to have violated this provision if fireworks are possessed, used or sold” on their property.
Illegal fireworks include M-80s, cherry bombs, firecrackers, bottle rockets, and roman candles. The only use of fireworks allowed are by professional pyrotechnic operators upon the issuance of a permit.
Besides the obvious safety issues, fireworks disturb your neighbors and their pets. The North Aurora Police Department will respond to fireworks complaints with zero tolerance for violations. Under North Aurora ordinance, homeowners may receive a citation that carries a fine of up to $750.
North Aurora residents wishing to report fireworks should call police at (630) 897-8705.
Fireworks will be held at Riverfront Park, behind the North Aurora Village Hall (25 E. State St.) on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 9:30 p.m. Fireworks are sponsored by the Village of North Aurora.
Festivities will begin at 7:00 p.m. with The New Vintage Strings, a quartet who will be playing their classical take on some well-known pop tunes. Following the quartet, at 8:00 p.m. enjoy the patriotic themed music of the Fox Valley Brass Band, a 30 member band of the Fox Valley Orchestra.
Bring a picnic or snacks and BYOB will be allowed in Riverfront Park in designated areas during the event.
Parking will be available at the parking lot on the corner of State Street and Lincolnway/Rt. 31 (by the community sign) and at Island Park (across the street from Riverfront Park). The village hall parking lot will be closed to the general public with the exception of a limited number of handicap parking, to allow for viewing of the fireworks. Residents in close proximity to Riverfront Park may want to bike or walk to the park, as parking will be limited. North Aurora police and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members will be directing pedestrian traffic to assist with crossing on State Street.
