Detectives investigating murder in Petaluma

This is a preliminary press release.  Detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday morning in the 6500 block of Lakeville Highway, Petaluma.  The man died from his injuries.

On July 24, 2018 at approximately 11:30 AM, deputies responded to Petaluma Valley Hospital at the request of Petaluma Police Department.  Petaluma Police had arrived for a gunshot victim and learned the shooting occurred in the Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction.

Deputies spoke with the victim’s three family members, who brought him to the hospital in a pickup truck.  They were not cooperative at first.  Detectives eventually determined the victim had been shot at a ranch with cock fighting events on Lakeville Highway.  One or more suspect(s) fired multiple gunshots and the victim was shot at least once in the neck or upper chest area.

After his family brought him to the hospital, the victim was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital because his injuries were life threatening.  He was pronounced dead at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital shortly thereafter.

Detectives are actively investigating this case and more details will be released as soon as they are available.  The victim’s name is not being released at this time.
