CRIME ALERT: Residential burglaries & thefts from vehicles

On Friday, June 22, 2018, the Middleton Police Department received several reports of thefts from vehicles and residential burglaries that occurred during the overnight hours in the Hidden Oaks subdivision on Middleton’s west side.

In some cases, the unknown suspect(s) used an unlocked door to gain entry from the garage into the interior of the home. The occupants of the residences were home at the time of the burglaries and were unaware the intruders had been inside their homes until the crime was discovered in the morning.

No forced entry was used. Suspect(s) entered either through an open garage door, unlocked utility garage door or by using the garage door opener found inside an unlocked vehicle parked outside.

These incidents are similar to others that have occurred recently throughout Dane County. Although there weren’t any reported today, oftentimes vehicle thefts have occurred during these incidents.

The Middleton Police Department urges you to take precautions in keeping your home and property safe:

•Always keep your garage door closed.
•Lock all garage doors, including utility doors and garage entrance doors.
•Never leave keys or electronic key fobs in your vehicle.
•Whether in your garage, driveway or a public area, never leave your car unlocked.

Finally, if you witness any suspicious activity near your home or in your neighborhood, please contact the Middleton Police Department right away by calling or texting 608-824-7300.
