K9 apprehends driver after vehicle pursuit
On 06-21-18 at about 8:15pm Officer Wiley initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1200 Block of Menard St. While Officer Wiley was approaching the vehicle, the driver accelerated at a high rate of speed. Officer Wiley initiated a vehicle pursuit in which the driver of the vehicle later fled on foot in the area.
Officers responded to the area where Officer Severson deployed K9 Fred to assist in locating the subject. While conducting an area search, alert citizens and K9 Fred located the subject attempting to flee from officers. After a short foot pursuit, the subject was apprehended by K9 Fred. The fleeing subject was identified as Nathan Hevel, 27 years old of Janesville. Hevel was transported to an area hospital for injuries as a result of the K9 apprehension.
The Janesville Police Department would like to thank the observant citizens in the neighborhood. They provided updated information to officers on Hevel's location as he continued to flee on foot. This was a collaborative effort with the community to apprehend Hevel.
Hevel was charged with the following and is awaiting court proceedings at the Rock County Jail:
