Crime Alert Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Tuesday, 06-12-18 at 3:04 a.m., two subjects, a 44-year old South San Francisco resident and a 47-year old Burlingame resident, were arrested for vehicle tampering and petty theft after stealing gasoline from a vehicle. This occurred on King Drive, underneath the I-280 overpass. Lt. Brennan was driving by and observed the subjects stealing the gas.

On Friday, 06-15-18 at 4:35 a.m., Officer Tualaulelei was dispatched to the 1300 block of Brunswick Street on a report of an auto burglary that just occurred. The reporting party said he was going to work and saw a subject inside his neighbor’s vehicle. The reporting party said to the subject, “What’s up?” and the subject asked him for a lighter. The reporting party said he didn’t have one and said the suspect closed the driver’s door, put a backpack on and walked away. The reporting party gave a description of the subject, and Officer Bermudez located the subject matching the description nearby. The owner of the vehicle said he was missing two pairs of shoes, a folder and a Camelback backpack. The items were retrieved from the suspect, a 32-year old San Francisco resident, before he was booked into jail for burglary and an outstanding warrant. I should note that this arrest was due to an ALERT neighbor who reported it to us!!

On Saturday, 06-16-18 at 2:58 a.m., Officer Ciucci and Officer Moody were driving the posted speed limit on DeLong Street when a car behind them began to activate the horn. After a few moments, Officer Moody pulled his patrol vehicle to the right and allowed the vehicle to pass. Officer Moody then tried to pull over the same vehicle at Hillcrest Drive and San Diego Avenue, but the vehicle continued to drive for approximately five blocks even though the patrol vehicle had the emergency lights and sirens activated. Officer Ciucci ultimately had to use the vehicle’s public address system to command the driver to pull over and park. The officers conducted field sobriety tests and arrested the subject, a 19-year old Daly City resident, for driving under the influence while under the age of 21.

On Saturday, 06-16-18 at 2:18 p.m., Officer Lickness was dispatched to the Lake Merced Golf and Country Club on a report of a subject who was parked in the lot and refusing to leave. As Officer Lickness approached the vehicle, a male subject exited the front passenger door. The officer noticed the subject was perspiring and speaking rapidly. The subject said he was waiting for his friend. The officer asked if there was anyone else in the vehicle, and a few moments later, a female exited the rear driver’s side door. Lt. Rolfes also responded and learned the female was 17-years old. The female told the officers that she was on her way to Disneyland and that she was a family friend. The officers believed neither subject was telling the truth. The officer asked the male subject if there were any drugs inside the vehicle, and the subject said there weren’t. Due to the subject’s outward symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance, K-9 Officer Taylor was asked to respond. The K-9, “Odin”, alerted Officer Taylor to where he smelled drugs, and a bag of white crystalline substance (suspected methamphetamine) fell from the dash area. Officer Lickness conducted a few sobriety tests and determined the subject was under the influence of a controlled substance. The subject, a 40-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance and for being in possession of a controlled substance. The officer asked the female if she had been engaged in any sexual activity, offered anything for sexual favors for money or was inappropriately touched, and the female said no. The female’s mother picked her up at the station.

Robberies

There were two robberies and one attempted robbery during the past week.

On Monday, 06-11-18 at 7:17 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Skyline Drive and Westmoor Avenue on a report of several subjects with pipes involved in a fight. Dispatchers advised the fight was after a shoplifting incident at the Valero gas station on Skyline Drive. The owner of the gas station said he saw a subject walk into the store, select drinks and walk out without paying. The 32-year old owner said he asked the suspect where he was going, and he said the subject told him he was taking them and he didn’t have any money. The owner said the subject suddenly punched him in the left eye, and they began to fight each other. The subject, a 31-year old San Jose resident, said the store owner punched him first, but the store’s video surveillance footage displayed otherwise. The subject was booked into jail after being treated at Seton Medical Center.

On Tuesday, 06-12-18 at 9:38 a.m., a 25-year old transient subject stole several items from the Dollar Tree on Mission Street and left the store without paying for the items. A 26-year old store employee tried to stop the subject from leaving, but the subject pushed her and hopped on a bus on Mission Street. The subject was quickly located by an officer, and the subject was arrested for robbery and for possession of a methamphetamine pipe.

On Wednesday, 06-13-18 at 10:44 p.m., two males wearing masks that covered half of their faces entered through the back door of the Pizza Hut restaurant and pushed an employee to the ground. The 30-year old employee said the subject pointed a black firearm at him and told him to get down. The victim said the subject said one of the subjects asked where the safe was, and the victim pointed to it but told the subject that the safe was on a time lock. The victim said one of the suspects uttered a swear word, and both suspects left through the rear door. The victim described the suspects as both black males, with athletic builds, both approximately 6’0” and 180 lbs., who wore masks that covered half of their faces. Officers responded to the area but could not locate the suspects.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. Please note: the City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
