Arrests made in Cigarette Theft Ring
On 06/20/18, officers of the Janesville Police Department arrested 2 suspects in a cigarette theft ring from local gas stations and tobacco retailers. The earliest incident involving the suspects occurred on 5/22/18. Two additional incidents occurred on 6/20/18.
The suspects would enter the tobacco retailer and ask for cartons of cigarettes. After the clerk retrieved the cigarettes, the suspect would grab the cartons and flee on foot. Most recently, the investigations show that the suspects were working together.
Both suspects were apprehended today by patrol officers and interviewed. Both are being held at the Rock County Jail pending their initial appearance. The arrests cleared several open investigations.
