...HIGH RISK OF RIP CURRENTS ALONG GULF-FACING BEACHES THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON... ...MINOR COASTAL FLOODING EXPECTED SOUTH OF PORT ARANSAS THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON... .Increasing swells with long periods along with moderate southeast winds will provide a high risk of rip currents for Gulf- facing beaches along the Middle Texas coast tonight through Wednesday afternoon. In addition, the combination of moderate onshore flow and increasing swells will produce higher than normal wave runup along the beaches. Because of the heavy rainfall over areas near the coast, the combination of runup from the Gulf along with the heavy freshwater rainfall will result in areas of coastal flooding, especially during times of high tide. * TIMING...Through Wednesday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Driving conditions may be impacted. Items along the beach may need to be removed due to the incoming wave runup along with standing water from heavy rainfall. Strong rip currents are expected along gulf- facing beaches. These rip currents can be life- threatening to anyone entering the surf, especially near piers and jetties.

* AFFECTED AREAS: ARANSAS ISLANDS ... CALHOUN ISLANDS ... KLEBERG ISLANDS ... NUECES ISLANDS

Instructions:

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don`t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
