Alert

Coastal Flood Advisory until 07:00AM Wednesday

...HIGH RISK OF RIP CURRENTS ALONG GULF-FACING BEACHES THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING... ...MINOR COASTAL FLOODING EXPECTED SOUTH OF PORT ARANSAS THROUGH NOON TUESDAY... .Increasing swells with long periods along with moderate southeast winds will provide a high risk of rip currents for Gulf- facing beaches along the Middle Texas coast tonight through Tuesday night. In addition, the combination of moderate onshore flow and increasing swells will produce higher than normal wave runup along the beaches. Because of the heavy rainfall over areas near the coast, the combination of runup from the gulf along with the heavy freshwater rainfall will result in areas of coastal flooding, especially during times of high tide. This coastal flooding will make driving difficult to impossible, and in some areas could result in beach access roads being inaccessible. ...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM CDT WEDNESDAY... ...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK NOW IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT...

* COASTAL FLOODING...Minor tidal overflow due to swells and associated wave runup may be possible with water reaching the dunes in some places, especially during times of high tide.

* Timing...Through Tuesday night.

* IMPACTS...Driving conditions may be impacted. Items along the beach may need to be removed due to the incoming wave runup. Strong rip currents are expected along gulf-facing beaches. These rip currents can be life-threatening to anyone entering the surf, especially near piers and jetties.

* AFFECTED AREAS: KLEBERG ISLANDS ... NUECES ISLANDS

Instructions:

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don`t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
