Detectives conduct an assault with a deadly weapon investigation

DATE: June 13, 2018 / 11:45 a.m.

INCIDENT: Assault with a Deadly Weapon

LOCATION: Banyan Street / Indigo Avenue

SUSPECT: Male Adult, driver of white pick-up truck

SUMMARY:

On June 13, 2018, at around 11:45 a.m., deputies responded to a man with a gun call. Dispatch advised two males were at the dead end of Banyan Street, west of Indigo Avenue, one of which had a gun. At the same time, the armed man’s wife, a local resident, called and said they had recently been burglarized and the occupants of a gold-colored sedan were in the area and acting suspiciously. She said her husband was holding them at gunpoint until police arrived. The first caller then advised the man with the gun fired at the vehicle as it drove away and the man was now chasing after the vehicle in a white pick-up truck.

Upon the deputies’ arrival, all subjects had left the area and a single 9mm casing was located in the middle of Banyan. The information was broadcasted to surrounding agencies. A short time later, Upland Police Department advised they had both vehicles stopped and all subjects detained. The man in the white truck had lost sight of the fleeing vehicle and drove to Upland Police Department to provide the vehicle description. He was found in possession of a black Glock 9mm handgun.

Upon investigation, it was determined the gold sedan that fled was occupied by a man and a woman. The fired bullet shattered the rear window, passing through the front and rear driver side headrests, and lodging in the rearview mirror housing. All parties were brought to Rancho Cucamonga Police Station for interviews. There was no evidence that the occupants of the gold sedan committed a crime and they were released. The male driving the white pick-up truck was also released. However, an assault with a deadly weapon report will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office.
