Deputy Aaron Vallini of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged a 16-year-old male with no operator’s license, resisting a public officer, injury to personal property, fleeing to elude arrest and failure to heed a blue light and siren.
Shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, Vallini was assisting other deputies and Marion Police Department officers at a license checkpoint at the intersection of Rutherford Road and Baldwin Avenue. A vehicle approached on Baldwin, turned around and fled at a high rate of speed.
Vallini pursued the automobile and learned from other deputies that it had crashed into a light pole on Morehead Road.
Deputies arrived on the scene and took the teen into custody.
