INCIDENT: POSSESSION OF STOLEN VEHICLES, FELON IN POSSESSION OF FIREARMS, OPERATION OF A CHOP SHOP

LOCATION: 12600 block of Laguna Seca Drive, Apple Valley

SUSPECT: James Wilkins, 64 years-old, of Apple Valley


SUMMARY:

On Friday, June 8, 2018, Deputy Kraft from the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to the report of a deceased 61-year-old male at a residence in the 12600 block of Laguna Seca Drive in Apple Valley. According to the caller, he went to the residence to see his friend, Dennis Coss, and found him deceased inside the house.

There was no foul play suspected in Mr. Coss’ death and while waiting for the Coroner, Deputy Kevin Kraft noticed numerous vehicles and vehicle parts all over the property. He started running the VIN Numbers and a Husqvarna motorcycle was confirmed stolen. Deputy Kraft contacted the SANCATT Unit who responded to the property with a warrant and located a second stolen motorcycle and took several other vehicles with obliterated VIN Numbers for further investigation.

During the service of this search warrant, Deputy Kraft learned the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station Gang Team had a warrant for the property and was looking for a subject living at the residence, James Wilkins. The Gang Team served the search warrant and removed several firearms. Wilkins is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms. No arrests were made at the time of the service of the warrants.

The investigation is continuing.
