CORRECTION Ribbon Cutting for Heritage Hall Community Center Re-opens Wednesday, June 20, 2018

Heritage Hall Community Center Re-opens
City of Hope and Progress
City of East Chicago— Monday, June 11, 2018 Mayor Anthony Copeland and the East Chicago Parks & Recreation Department will celebrate the grand opening of the newly constructed Heritage Hall Community Center on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.  A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the center at 10AM at 4506 Tod Avenue, East Chicago, IN 46312.

The new Heritage Hall is a 7,000 square foot multi-use recreation center, featuring two multi-purpose rooms and a gymnasium for basketball, volleyball, tennis & soccer.  The center also house a running/walking track for residents, and a kitchenette that can be used during room rentals and special events.  The City of East Chicago has invested $3,455,946.00 into this new facility.

The new Heritage Hall Community Center is one of two centers that have undergone total reconstruction in East Chicago.  The Pennsylvania Center, located at Guthrie and Broadway, has also undergone total reconstruction with a total investment cost of $12 million between both centers.

Positive Impacts on the community

“ I am very proud to see Heritage Hall completed on time for residents and with Stars Summer Camp kicking off this week, the timing of this center’s completion could not be more perfect,” stated Mayor Copeland. “Tax dollars have been put to use in ways that will directly impact families. I cannot wait to see all the activities planned by our Parks & Recreation staff. We also have a fitness area for adults to promote health and wellness. Come on down and see it for yourself,” stated the Mayor.
It is anticipated that the Heritage Hall Community Center will be heavily utilized.  “We created a redevelopment plan based on an assessment of need,” said City Engineer William Allen.  “It would have cost more to bring Heritage Hall and the Pennsylvania Center up to our standard than it would of cost to rebuild them.”

This new intergenerational center will provide both educational and physical activities that adults and children will enjoy for years to come, and just one of the many new quality of life improvements benefiting the residents of East Chicago.
