Burglar Arrested After Break-In

On June 8th around 6 pm, an elder resident returned to his home in the Glendale La Loma neighborhood to find an empty bag of Doritos in his kitchen along with a used drinking glass.  Knowing that he had not left those items in the kitchen before he left, the resident checked the rest of his house.  Inside his master bedroom, the resident found a man inside.  Both the man and the bathroom floor were all wet—and it appeared as though he just got out of the shower.  As if that wasn’t enough, the man had also filled the resident’s hamper with his dirty clothes.  The resident promptly got out of the house and called 911.

When officers arrived at the house, they found the man still inside the master bedroom.  Surprisingly, the man had now dressed himself in a Docker’s dress shirt, Land’s End dress pants, and a waist belt from the resident’s wardrobe.

Officers consequently arrested the man (Nao Hamada Myers, Male, 41, Berkeley Homeless) for burglary and violation of probation.

Historically, roughly 50% of burglaries occur through an open/unsecure door or window.  In this case, the burglar likely gained access to the residence with an exterior hidden key.  The Berkeley Police Department encourages everyone to make an effort to make certain they do not leave open/unsecure doors or windows unattended.  As an option to a spare key, consider sharing a key with a trusted friend or neighbor.
