Suffolk County Police last night arrested a man for Driving While Intoxicated after he was involved in a motor vehicle crash that injured a 12-year-old girl in Shirley.
Karen Johnson was driving a 1997 Honda sedan, with her 12-year-old daughter in the back seat, at approximately 11:20 p.m. The Honda was stopped at a traffic light on southbound William Floyd Parkway at Robinwood Drive when the vehicle was struck from behind by a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Donald Savage.
The 12-year-old was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Neither the woman nor Savage was injured.
Savage, 41, of 143 Cypress Drive, Mastic Beach, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He is being held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on June 9.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
