North Aurora, IL – Officers of the North Aurora Police Department responded to a report of a person with a weapon in the area of John St. & Willowway on Thursday, June 7th at about 1:34 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim, an 18 year old male of North Aurora was supposed to meet a male for the purpose of selling a pair of studio headphones for $200. The pair were supposed to meet at the 7-Eleven store at 2 S. Lincolnway but the buyer insisted on meeting at State St. & Grace St., which was about a block away, and the seller agreed.
When the buyer arrived, the seller became suspicious and attempted to walk away, and then two males exited the buyer’s vehicle and began to chase the seller. When the two males caught the seller, they attempted to take the seller’s backpack by force and the buyer pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at the seller. The suspects then fled in their vehicle.
Minutes later, an alert North Aurora officer spotted the suspect vehicle traveling southbound on Rt. 25 approaching Sullivan Rd. and initiated a vehicle stop in the 300 block of E. Indian Trail, Aurora.
The following persons were arrested and charged through the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office:

- Attempted Armed Robbery, a Class 1 Felony
- Attempted Robbery, a Class 3 Felony
- Unlawful Use of Weapon / No FOID card, A Class 4 Felony
- Unlawful Use of Weapon / Loaded gun, A Class 4 Felony
- Mob Action, a Class A Misdemeanor
- A male juvenile, 16, of Rockford, IL –
- Attempted Armed Robbery, a Class 1 Felony
- Attempted Robbery, a Class 3 Felony
- Mob Action, a Class A Misdemeanor
- Tywan D. Jones, 20, of the 300 block of Barnaby Dr., Oswego, IL –
- Attempted Armed Robbery, a Class 1 Felony
- Attempted Robbery, a Class 3 Felony
- Mob Action, a Class A Misdemeanor
Jones was held at the North Aurora Police Department and attended a bond hearing today, where a judge set his bail at $50,000 / 10%. He was turned over to the custody of the Kane County Adult Justice Center. The two juveniles were processed and transported yesterday to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center.
Another male juvenile passenger, 15, who did not participate in the incident was released without charges.

All persons charged are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The North Aurora Police Department would like to remind the public that a parking space in front of our station, located at 200 S. Lincolnway, on the northwest corner of Rt. 31 & Airport Rd., has been designated as a “Purchase Exchange Location” to give residents a safe location to complete internet sales. The area is well-lit at night and recorded by surveillance cameras 24 hours per day. A sign has been posted to mark the location.
We recommend using our purchase exchange location whenever have to meet a stranger to complete a sale. Don’t go alone and don’t go to someone’s home or invite them to yours. If the buyer or seller have a problem with meeting at a police station to complete the sale, be suspicious and call off the sale.
