Just after midnight, Sheriff's Office deputies and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a report of a gunshot victim on Milledge Village Road in Burton. When deputies arrived, they met with the adult male gunshot victim, who advised he was chased near a wooded area and shot by an unknown subject several times. The victim would provide no other information.

EMS transported the wounded man to the Beaufort Memorial Hospital, while deputies searched the area for witnesses and evidence of the shooting. Deputies were able to locate several spent shell casings in a location that was not consistent with the gunshot victim's statement. The casings were collected for forensic analysis. As of this morning, the victim remains hospitalized and is listed in stable condition.
