More Bridge Project information - Please read! (updated)

From the Office of Chief Anthony E. Deely

The NJDOT originally stated ( see below ) at the onset of the Bridge project  that there would be no lane closures, which is clearly NOT the case.

More information in regards to the bridge project as stated on the NJDOT homepage (see link below). Again this information is being provided as a courtesy to Township residents.

The project is currently in Final Design and Construction. The New Manahawkin Bay Bridge construction contract was awarded on April 24, 2013 with construction activities beginning May 3, 2013. Construction is anticipated to continue through 2020. Since Route 72 is vital to the tourist economy, four lanes of traffic will be provided continuously during construction in the summer months.
The below information is on the NJDOT site regarding the Route 72 project section is frequently asked questions.

Q: Will there be detours and delays?
A: Detours are neither viable nor planned for this section of Route 72. While some lane shifts will be required, two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction during the summer tourist season. Any reduction in lanes or temporary lane closures would only occur during the off-season and will not be allowed during special community events.

Q. How can I stay informed or offer suggestions?
A:
  • Check this website regularly for updated information.
