Domestic Battery/Resisting a Peace Officer

5/23 – 7:15 p.m. – Police were called to a residence for a disturbance in progress, on West Elm Street. Upon arrival he found a domestic disturbance between family members, one of them being an irate male. The male subject refused to comply with the officer’s commands, and resisted arrest. A Good Samaritan, who was not involved in the situation and had been observing the incident from afar, came to the officer’s aid, and the suspect was successfully taken into custody. Upon further investigation it was revealed the suspect had committed a domestic battery against a female minor, to whom he is related. Upon presenting the case to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office the suspect, Jason K. Peters age 44 of Belleville, was charged with the following:

Count 1: Domestic Battery; in that the said defendant, knowingly made physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature with a female minor, a family or household member of the defendant, in that he pushed the minor about the body.

Count 2: Resisting a Peace Officer; in that the said defendant, knowingly resisted the performance of the officer of an authorized act within his official capacity, being the arrest of Jason Peters, knowing the officer to be engaged in the execution of his official duties, in that he fought against the officer and refused to be handcuffed.

Bond was set at $15,000. The police department is grateful to the individual who assisted the officer in this incident.
