The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
  Southwestern Catawba County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
  Southeastern McDowell County in western North Carolina...
  Northeastern Rutherford County in western North Carolina...
  Western Lincoln County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
  Northwestern Cleveland County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
  Burke County in western North Carolina...

* Until 730 PM EDT.

* At 642 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 8 miles south of
  Morganton, or near South Mountains State Park, moving southeast at 
  30 mph. Another severe thunderstorm was located 2 miles south of 
  Valdese, also moving southeast at 30 mph.

  HAZARD...Ping pong ball size hail and 60 mph wind gusts.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...People and animals outdoors will be injured. Expect hail 
           damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. Expect 
           wind damage to trees and power lines.

* Locations impacted include...
  Hickory, Morganton, Newton, Conover, Longview, Valdese, Icard,
  Drexel, Hildebran and Connelly Springs.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A few trees and power lines will be blown down in the warned area.
Hail can cause major property damage, especially to vehicles. Seek
shelter inside an interior room.
