Video surveillance leads to the arrest of Darren Stevens & a 14 yr old male for theft & possession of stolen property

DATE/TIME: May 30,2018 / 11:15 p.m.

INCIDENT: Theft, Possession of Stolen Property, Convicted Felon in Possession of Firearm and Violation of Parole

LOCATION: 200 Block of J Street, Needles, California

SUSPECT(S): Darren Stevens, 25 years old, resident of Needles, California
14 year old male, resident of Needles California

SUMMARY:
During the early morning hours on May 30, 2018, deputies from the Colorado River Station/Needles Police Department responded to reports of several vehicle burglaries and thefts from vehicles in the areas of California Street, R Street and the 2300 block of Needles Hwy in the City of Needles. During their investigatin, deputies obtained video depicting the suspects carrying some of the reported stolen property, which included a 9mm handgun.

On May 30, 2018 at approximately 11:15 p.m., Deputy McKay from the Colorado River Station/Needles Police Department was patroling in the area of the 200 block of J Street in the City of Needles. While he was doing so, he observed two subjects that matched the description of suspects involved in numerous vehicle burglaries and thefts from vehicles that had occurred over the past 24 hours in the west end of the City of Needles. Deputy McKay contacted the subjects at the Jack in the Box on J Street. The subjects were identified as Darren Stevens and a 14 year old male, both of Needles, California.

During his contact with the subjects, Deputy McKay recovered a 9mm handgun that was stolen from a vehicle during the prior vehicle burglaries and thefts from vehicles. Both subjects were arrested for the Thefts, Vehicle Burglaries and possession of the Stolen handgun.

Stevens is on active parole in California for Voluntary Manslaughter and had an active no bail warrant for a parole violation. Stevens was transported to the Colorado River Station Jail where he is being held pending court with no bail. The 14 year old male was transported to the Juvenile detention facility in Apple Valley.
