Deputies make arrest after investigating pursuit, crash in stolen car.

Yesterday morning the Sheriff’s Office reported about a pursuit of a stolen black Honda Civic that led deputies up Porter Creek Road at speeds up to 70 mph. The car crashed off the road and hit a tree stump and the driver fled, leaving behind his injured passenger.

Deputies found a backpack in the car with various pieces of legal papers with the name of Christofer Terry Burnett, a 26-year-old transient. They also found a wrench that had been fastened into a punch type tool used to break windows.

Deputies were following up on this lead when at about 4:45 PM yesterday an alert resident called, stating a suspicious person was walking down Porter Creek Road in the area of the car crash. The resident had seen the press release and felt this might have been the suspect.

Deputies went up Porter Creek Rd and found the man walking in the 3100 block of Porter Creek Rd. They contacted him and determined his name to be Christofer Terry Burnett. Deputies were able to confirm he was the driver of the stolen car and the person who fled from them after the car crash.

Burnett was arrested without incident and taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries sustained in the earlier crash. He was then transported and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on charges of evasion, false imprisonment, hit and run causing injury, vehicle theft, possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools. He is being held on $65,000 bail.
