SUMMARY:

On May 28, 2018, at approximately 6:15 pm, two residents in the 34000 block of Troy Road in Newberry Springs reported to Sheriff’s Dispatch that several bullets had struck their residence and vehicle. Deputies from the Barstow Sheriff’s Station responded and verified bullet holes were found at the scene. After confirming that the occupants were not injured, the deputies contacted a group of subjects in the desert approximately two hundred yards from the incident location.

The group claimed they were riding motorcycles in the area. After further investigation of the scene, a 7.62 caliber semi-automatic assault rifle was found hidden in the bushes nearby. Fired cartridge casings matching the caliber of the rifle were observed on the ground near the subjects’ vehicles. A bolt carrier, magazines, and live ammunition also matching the rifle’s caliber was located within one of their vehicles. All seven subjects were arrested and transported to the Barstow Jail for negligent discharge of a firearm.
