INCIDENT: Memorial Day Marine Enforcement Operation

LOCATION: Colorado River Station

SUMMARY: The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit conducted it's 2018 Memorial Day Weekend Operation, starting on May 25, 2018 through May 28, 2018. The operation was conducted along the Colorado River from the California/Nevada state line to the Riverside County line.

The majority of the operation was focused on the waterways with resorts, launch ramps and marinas along the river and lake. A total of ten patrol vessels, one Rescue Dive Team, one Gang Enforcement Team, an OHV team and one Sheriff's Department helicopter crew were deployed throughout the area.

There were a total of fourteen arrests made, thirteen of which were for Boating Under the Influence. Seventy citations were issued for various boating law violations. Two boating accidents were investigated throughout the weekend. One accident consisted of only minor injuries at the mouth of the river and the other was a boat fire on the Colorado River near Coors Island.

The Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit urges all California residents to go online to and take the online test in order to obtain their boater card which is now required by law. The Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit is, as always, dedicated to providing a safe boating atmosphere for the public and reminds everyone to wear their life vests and to boat sober.
