Investigation underway after pursuit injures woman.

A man who fled from deputies is wanted after stealing a car, crashing and injuring his passenger. The incident began at about 1:40 AM in Windsor when a deputy spotted a black Honda Civic speeding and ran a stop sign on Windsor River Rd. Instead of pulling over for the deputy’s emergency lights and sirens, the driver chose to lead deputies into a vehicle pursuit.

The pursuit went westbound to Eastside Rd, then south to River Rd, east to Mark West/Porter Creek Roads and ultimately crashed into a tree stump in the 2800 block of Porter Creek Rd. The driver reached speeds of 70 mph during the pursuit.

The driver was able to get out of the Honda and flee into the woods on foot, eluding deputies as they stopped to care for his injured passenger left behind in the front passenger seat. The injured 32-year-old woman was transported to Memorial Hospital by ambulance for minor injuries.

Deputies called the registered owner from a “for sale” sign in the window and they were told that the car must have been recently stolen because the owner had the car parked at a business park in Ukiah, trying to sell it.

Deputies are working with the injured woman and conducting an investigation into the suspect’s identity, developing leads in an attempt to arrest the man who fled. He is wanted on charges of felony charges of auto theft, evasion, false imprisonment and hit and run causing injuries. The suspect has not been identified yet but if anyone knows anything about this crime, they are encouraged to contact Sheriff’s Dispatch at 707-565-2121 or leave a tip on our website at https://www.sonomasheriff.org/silent-witness/.
