Deputies investigate an injury traffic collision with a 3 year old child ejected; child is in stable condition

DATE/TIME: May 18, 2018 / 1:43 PM

INCIDENT: Injury Traffic Collision

LOCATION: Sultana Street / Hickory Ave. Hesperia

SUMMARY:

On May 18, 2018 at about 1:43 PM, Deputies from the Hesperia Station and rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of Sultana St. and Hickory Ave. It was reported that a child had been ejected from one of the vehicles during the collision, and was suffering from injuries as a result. First responders arrived on scene and located the victim, a 3-year-old female, who had been ejected. The adult female drivers of both vehicles involved had minor injuries that did not require immediate attention. The 3-year-old victim was suffering from major head injuries as well as unknown possible internal injuries. That victim was flown by medical helicopter to Loma Linda University Medical Center for advanced treatment and was reported to be in stable condition.

Deputies from the Hesperia Station, Traffic Division are conducting the investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision and will examine the vehicles restraint systems to determine if the juvenile was properly restrained at the time of the collision. Investigators were able to determine that the vehicles involved, a 2011 Ford Edge SUV and a 2004 Scion collided in the intersection and the juvenile had been ejected from the Scion during the collision.

Sultana St. and Hickory Ave. were both closed in both directions during the investigation while investigators processed the scene and collected evidence.

Anyone with information is asked to call Deputy Taylor Lamson or Sergeant Doug Hubbard at the Hesperia Station.
