SUMMARY:

On March 29, 2018 at 2:37 a.m. deputies responded to a report of several men arguing in front of Rancho High School. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a male victim had been severely beaten and had blood on his face and forehead. During the investigation, it was determined the two victims had been at a party in the city of Fontana. When the party ended, an unknown male, only known as Ty, offered to drive the victims home due to their intoxication. Two other suspects followed in a second vehicle. After several stops, they arrived on Lark Ave where they were ordered out of the vehicle. As the victims exited, Ty and the two other suspects pistol whipped and beat one of the victims. They also assaulted the second victim and took their jewelry and other valuables.

In the days following, all suspects were identified and two were arrested. Drew Espino and Tyrin Smith were booked at the West Valley Detention Center where they are still being held.

On May 18, 2018, deputies from the Multi Enforcement Team assisted detectives and apprehended the third suspect, Justin Sumlar, in San Bernardino without incident. He was booked at the West Valley Detention Center where he is also being held for a parole violation.
