Advisory

Police resolve barricaded situation in Bordentown Township.

On 5/18/17, at approximately 12:36pm, the Bordentown Township Police Department responded to a residence on Redwood Ave. after receiving a 911 call from a 33 year-old female resident who reported that a 54 year-old family member had armed himself with several firearms and was making suicidal statements.

Upon arriving at the residence, Bordentown Township Officers established a perimeter and attempted to make contact with the subject but were unsuccessful.  Police were able to contact the female resident and found that she was concerned for her personal safety and had sought refuge away from the subject in an upstairs bedroom.  Township Police then contacted the NJSP and FBI for assistance.  These agencies responded and their negotiators were able to coordinate the release of the 33 year-old female from the home.  After further negotiations with the subject were unsuccessful, the NJSP Teams Unit made entry to the home at approximately 4:55 pm and took the subject into custody without incident.  No injuries were sustained by law enforcement or the subject.

The subject was then transported to a local hospital for crisis treatment.  Police are not releasing the subject’s name at this time.  Criminal charges may be filed pending the outcome of the police investigation.

Bordentown Township Police Chief Brian Pesce extends sincere thanks to the many agencies that responded and provided vital assistance in bringing this matter to a peaceful resolution.  Those agencies included the NJSP, FBI, Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, Burlington County Central Communications, Bordentown City PD, Mansfield Township PD, Florence Township PD, Springfield Township PD, NJ DOT, Bordentown Fire Police and Bordentown EMS.

All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
