...Flood Warning extended until Sunday evening...
The Flood Warning continues for
The Opequon Creek near Martinsburg.
* Until Sunday evening.
* At 4 PM Friday the stage was 10.7 feet.
* Flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Recent activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at
4 PM Friday was 12.2 feet.
* Forecast...Even though the river is currently falling, the river
will rise again to near 12.9 feet by early Saturday evening. The
river will fall below flood stage late Sunday afternoon.
* Impact...At 12.5 feet...The creek is well out of its banks with
lowlands nearby flooded. Golf Course Road /County Road 36/ is
flooded near the Van Metre Ford Pedestrian Bridge. Fields and
backyards near the creek are flooded and some residents may need to
move items to higher ground. Several other roads are flooded,
including Grapevine Road, Douglas Grove Road, and Paynes Ford Road.
Backwater flooding is occurring on small tributaries, including
Tuscarora Creek.
* Flood history...This crest compares to a previous crest of 13.3 feet
on Jul 29 2017.
