Advisory

No Threat to Hillside Middle School

On 5/17/2018, Simi Valley Police Officers responded to Hillside Middle School, located at 2222 Fitzgerald Road, on the report of a threat. When the officers arrived they learned that a student at the school brought reloading ball projectiles to the school and gave them to another student. This student posted a picture of a projectile on Instagram, when this was seen it was initially believed to be a threat. Officers made contact with the student, recovered the projectiles and determined that there was no threat to the school. The students involved in this incident will be dealt with administratively by school personnel and the Instagram posting has been removed.
A ball projectile alone is a harmless material. Without a casing, primer and powder the projectile cannot be fired. This type of material is commonly possessed by those who reload their own ammunition.
The Simi Valley Police Department takes this type of report seriously and will use all available resources to see that they are thoroughly investigated. Members of the community are encouraged to report similar incidents to the Department.
